The City of Trees

It's true, Atlanta is a thriving urban oasis. From the city’s boundless tree canopy to the scenic North Georgia Mountains, it’s easy to lose yourself in the natural beauty of Atlanta.

Step into nature.

In this city, green space matters. That's why the city is committed to expanding Piedmont Park, building Westside Resevoir Park — soon to be the city's largest — and finishing the Atlanta BeltLine. Holding unlimited potential for the city's future, this 22-mile loop is the most ambitious, smart growth initiative in the nation. Converting these old railroad lines into centers of recreation represents not only our past, but the opportunity to build a more walkable and vibrant future. These vine-covered pathways are becoming an emerald loop of parks, trails and transit that will transform Atlanta by connecting our neighborhoods like never before.

No matter where you are in Atlanta, you’re sure to stumble upon something beautiful. While almost every visitor knows about Piedmont Park and Centennial Olympic Park, there are more than 343 scenic parks scattered throughout the city. Almost every neighborhood has its own private oasis of green space, where the grind of everyday life unwinds into endless nature. The city also features over 125 miles of multi-use trails. Feel like hiking to Maine? The Appalachian Trail begins in Atlanta. Want to bike your way to Alabama? Hop on the Silver Comet Trail and pedal away. If paths aren’t really your thing, don't worry — Atlanta also plays host to a multitude of gorgeous waterways, from tiny creeks to rushing rivers and hidden waterfalls. Our most well-known waterscape is the Chattahoochee River, which gives Atlanta 48 miles of waterfront.
